Marty Mickelson is a native of the small farming town of Grace, located in southeastern Idaho. He grew up working on family-owned Superview Dairy, home of Life-O-Riley Holsteins. 4-H and FFA have played an important role in his life from an early age. After graduating high school, he served a church mission in Wisconsin. Afterwards, he began his own company, Rocky Mountain Genetics, which worked with several A.I. studs to progeny test bulls.
Rocky Mountain Genetics evolved over 30 years of business to become a specialized livestock trucking company. His company has delivered over 30,000 purebred animals across the United States. His clients include two NBA all-stars, a Hall of Fame MLB pitcher, an NFL quarterback, two well-known Hollywood directors, various Wall Street moguls, some country music stars, along with many top livestock breeders. Rocky Mountain Genetics has done business in all 50 states, as well as several foreign countries.
One memorable deal was delivering a herd of dairy cows from Hawaii to Washington. Four separate trips were made in the span of 2 months, each involving an entire week on the water, caring for and milking the cows across the Pacific.
After years of hauling various types of livestock (including camels, buffalo, peacocks, emu, and deer), Marty retired from full-time trucking in December. The decades spent on the road have been full of memorable experiences. He has written down these experiences in the form of cowboy poetry. Marty now has time to concentrate on writing children's books, making custom buckles, and telling bull stories.
